Closed Testing Release Notes
A different kind of lock screen for kids. Not built to engage. Built to stay calm.
What’s new
- Calm lock experience
- When a child tries to unlock the phone, CalmScreen Lock stays on
- The device does not open unless a parent allows it
- Simple, low-stimulation interactions
- Gentle visual activities instead of apps, videos, or notifications
- Two types of interactions: microgames and writing.
- Schedule:
- 8 AM to 8 PM (day):
- Divided into 3-hour blocks.
- Only one microgame is encountered by the child in a 3-hour block.
- Microgames cycle once every 3-hour block, such that new microgames appear for every 3 hours.
- 8 PM to 8 AM (night):
- Only writing sessions appear, no microgames.
- 8 AM to 8 PM (day):
- No autoplay, no rewards, no progression
- Designed to end use
- Interaction fades out naturally
- Screen turns off if inactive (~30 seconds)
- Parent-only exit
- Secure authentication required to unlock
- Unlock possible only after unpinning the app according to the device requirements.
- Parent insights and guidance (basic, more insights coming soon)
- Screen time (today)
- Number of unlock attempts
- Notifications with parenting tips, once a day
- Non-intrusive ads (test phase)
- Shown only after parent authentication
- Never shown to children during use
What we’re testing
- Whether the phone becomes less stimulating over time
- Whether children disengage naturally
- Parent experience: control, ease, and trust
- Stability across devices (pinned mode, edge cases)
Known limitations
- Limited interaction set (more coming)
- Ads and timing still being optimized
Note
This is an early closed testing build focused on core behaviour and design philosophy, not final features.
